What Is ReadGem?

The ReadGem app is, at its core, a reading platform that allows users to read English classics sentence by sentence alongside translations in their own language and listen to the text through text-to-speech technology.

As of 2026, ReadGem offers 550 classic works translated into 20 major world languages, available free of charge on the App Store and Google Play.

Free access to the classics can become a ladder of knowledge that gives young people around the world the opportunity to dream.

Imagine a poor boy or girl with a love of literature in a non-English-speaking country. They want to read, but the nearest library is far away, and translated books in bookstores are too expensive. With nothing more than a smartphone, they can study the original English text for free and read it alongside their native language. Such an experience could transform their dreams, values, and view of the world.

Now imagine adults around the world who have forgotten literature because they have been too busy making a living. With a single click, they can encounter some of the finest sentences ever written in English. They may rediscover their emotional sensitivity and find comfort in saying, “I started reading it because it was free, but it became the book of my life.”

Everyone should be able to experience the noblest achievements of the human mind without worrying about money.

Classics are works that have formed the foundations of language, culture, and knowledge over hundreds of years. Reading a classic can become a deeply moving experience that remains with a person for a lifetime.

However, when readers are given only a translation without the original English text, they have no standard by which to judge whether the translation is accurate or how good its quality is. They also lose the opportunity to learn English and may be unable to discover the true meaning and nuance that can be experienced only through the original text.

Translation is never truly complete. Even professional translators cannot completely avoid errors, and it is realistically almost impossible for anyone to guarantee that a translation represents the highest possible quality.

Nevertheless, ReadGem’s goal is to translate more than 100,000 classic books into every language in the world, ultimately achieving a level of quality that may even surpass conventional professional translation.
